Just as humans spread from Africa to the rest of the world, every living organism (species) on Earth has experienced its own unique history before “establishing" its current distribution. Understanding the background of how these organisms are distributed will give “us" a new perspective on nature, including biodiversity. In this lecture, we will discuss processes that shaped the distribution of alpine plants in the Japanese Archipelago as examples.
