139th UTokyo Open Lecture, Autumn 2024 " the Universe"

The history of astronomy at the University of Tokyo dates back even further than its founding in 1877, tracing its origins to the Tenmongata (Astronomy Agency) of the Edo Shogunate. As the countdown to the 150th anniversary of the University of Tokyo in 2027 has begun, numerous historical discoveries and events related to 'space' are taking place. In this open lecture, we will examine the universe from various fields of natural and social sciences from multiple perspectives, discussing three sub-themes: 'Birth of the Universe', 'Planets and the Solar System', and 'Space Exploration'.
