Science of Life - The Harmony Between Structures and Functions (Global Focus on Knowledge)

The 21st century is called "the era of life science". Life science has developed so rapidly during 20th and 21st century. One of the reasons is that understanding living organisms including humans by "the language of molecules" became possible. Those are : genome decodings of model creatures including humans, mechanism of inter-cellular signal transduction, elucidation of genes responsible for morphogenesis, proteomics, discovery of brain sciences, etc. The second reason is that life science got over boundaries of former biological science disciplines, such as medicine, agriculture, pharmaceutical science, biology, and developed greatly into the interdisciplinary and general science which includes engineering, education, economics, information science, ecology, and cognitive science. While the field of life science broadens, it is quite a big problem to consider life science in a global view in these development and changes. In these lectures, focusing on morphogenesis and organ formation during ontogenesis, life seen from molecular motor, viriology, genome science and evolution, "life" is seen from a global view. Instructors are to talk about diversity and uniformity of life, and such "life knowledges", through life histories that each organisms has, their profoundness and beauty, a harmony between structures and functions, dramatic battles between viruses and humans and so on.

#1 From an Egg to an Adult Body-The Morphogenetic Mechanism
