July 4th has been designated as "UTokyo Safety Day" at the University of Tokyo as it is , the day when an accident occurred in which a member of the institution lost their life during a diving operation in 2005. Around this time each year we hold the “UTokyo Safety Day” lecture with the aim of the day is to prevent the memories of the accident from fading away, improving safety and hygiene in educational and research activities, preventing accidents and disasters, raising safety awareness, and promoting a safety culture. This year, which marks the 18th lecture, the event was held on Tuesday, July 4th with the theme of "Responding to Risks Inherent in Modern Society". * Concurrent event: The 7th Tokyo University Environmental Safety and Health Slogan Contest Award Ceremony.
