Let's regard life as information systems. In studying other systems, the behavior of these systems provides many beneficial ideas in numerous cases. Especially noted concerning these systems is the mechanism and process (i.e. evolution) of adapting to environment. Multitudes of systems that are unrelated to life have common characteristics with these systems. Herein lies the basic concepts to understand complex systems. In my lectures, I will first explain the progress of living systems and fundamental concepts of adaptation, selection and replication. This will be followed by discussions of evolutionary phenomena in non-living systems such as human culture, municipal systems, intelligent systems, Mickey Mouse and folk songs. This leads to one question: Where and how are living systems different from non-living systems? Additionally, I will summarize the evolutionary process of man in which I will discuss the relations between the biological aspects and cultural aspects of man and their conflict (gene versus meme?) This would be like trying to answer from an evolutionary theory standpoint the following question: "Is a person who committed suicide in obedience to the teachings of a cult, happy?"
