Friend or Foe? A microorganism that can be both plant pathogen and symbiont [JP]

2:14

Are you familiar with plant pathogens and symbionts?
Pathogens have the potential to restrict plant growth and induce diseases, whereas symbionts are known to promote plant growth and fitness.
These microbes have traditionally been perceived as separate and distinct due to their divergent effects on plants.
However, is this really true?
In this lecture, I will explain that pathogenic and symbiotic fungi, despite their seemingly disparate natures, share significant similarities.
Based on the findings, I will explain how we should make use of symbiotic fungi in agriculture while restricting their potential virulence.
